Getting Started

Creating Your First Project

Step-by-step guide to setting up your first construction project in Buildero

Creating Your First Project

Projects are the core of Buildero. Every invoice, time entry, estimate, and schedule is tied to a project. Here's how to set up your first one in under two minutes.

Step 1: Open the New Project Form

From any page, click the + New button in the top-right corner and select Project. You can also navigate to Projects in the sidebar and click New Project.

Step 2: Enter Basic Information

Fill in the following fields:

  • Project Name — something clear like "Johnson Kitchen Remodel" or "Main St. Roof Replacement"
  • Client — start typing to find an existing client or click Add New Client to create one on the spot
  • Project Address — the job site address (used for GPS time tracking and maps)
  • Start Date — when work is scheduled to begin
  • End Date (optional) — estimated completion date

Step 3: Set a Budget (Optional)

Enter an estimated project value in the Budget field. This lets Buildero show you progress bars comparing estimated vs. actual costs as the job runs.

Step 4: Choose a Status

New projects default to Active. You can also set:

  • Pending — job is won but work hasn't started yet
  • On Hold — temporarily paused
  • Completed — job is done

Step 5: Add a Description

Use the description field to note scope of work, special instructions, or anything your crew needs to know. This is visible to any team member with access to the project.

Step 6: Save the Project

Click Create Project. Your new project will appear in the Projects list and you'll be taken directly to the project detail page.

What's Next

From the project detail page you can:

  • Upload contracts and plans under the Documents tab
  • Add photos from the job site under the Photos tab
  • Create an estimate or invoice linked to this project
  • Assign crew members and build a schedule

Your first project is ready. Now your crew can start clocking in and you can start sending estimates to your client.
